Gratefulness vs. Unthankfulness
Definition: Letting others know by my words and actions how they have benefited my life.
I Will…
* Show my parents and teachers that I appreciate them
* Write “thank you” notes
* Take care of my things
* Be content with what I have
* Count my benefits rather than my burdens
Week One Activities
(Working on ~ Showing my parents and teachers that I appreciate them)
As parents work together, yet separately encouraging children to speak words of gratefulness to the other parent. Ensure you are speaking grateful words as well. Live that which you are trying to teach.
Week Two Activities
(Working on ~ Writing “thank you” notes)
While speaking words of gratefulness is wonderful, taking the extra time to make and/or write thank you notes, show that the person means a lot to you and their actions touched your heart. Encourage each family member to write at least 1 thank you note this week to someone who touched their lives.
Week Three Activities
(Working on ~ Taking care of my things)
Everything is a gift. How we care for our things shows our gratefulness. During family time ensure everyone understands that God gives us everything, that all is a gift. We don’t deserve or earn anything on our own. Encourage all to show God their gratefulness by caring for their things.
Week Four Activities
(Working on ~ Being content with what I have)
During family time have everyone write down something that they would like to have. Go through them and discuss things that they already have, that many people do not. Ensure to include things we typically take for granted; warm blankets, boots, gloves, bug spray, homes, etc.
Week Five Activities
(Working on ~ Counting my benefits instead of my burdens)
Together as a family make a list of things we have been given that benefit us. Things that we don’t need, but greatly help us in our daily lives.
