Benevolence vs. Selfishness

Benevolence vs. Selfishness

Definition: Giving to others’ basic needs without having as my motive personal reward

I WILL…..

* See the needs of others as quickly as I see my own

* Give freely without expecting anything in return

* Not hoard things for myself

* Not profit from the misfortune of others

* Give more as I get more

Week One Activities

(working on ~ seeing the needs of other as quickly as I see my own)

* Encourage the family to help in any way ~ even if it seems small, even if you’re busy doing something else

* Help can be inside or outside the home

* Make a list of things the kiddos can help do around the house ~ teach that their help, benefits themselves and helps mom and dad.

Week Two Activities

(working on ~ giving freely without expecting anything in return)

*  Tithing, sharing, gift giving are all wonderful ways to encourage this “I will”

Week Three Activities

(working on ~ not hoarding things for myself)

* Encourage sharing throughout the family ~ toys, cookies, time alone with parents and friends, etc.

Week Four Activities

(working on ~ not profiting from the misfortune of others)

* Teaching empathy when some thing doesn’t work out for others, someone gets hurt even if they did wrong, etc.

Week Five Activities

(working on ~ giving more as I get more)

* Tithing is a wonderful way to teach this week’s “I Will”.  As is sharing food, clothes, etc.

Excellent plan. I love reading of young mothers teaching character to their children. Your children are blessed.
