This recipe has become a breakfast favorite for my children. It is relatively easy, and there is rarely any left after they eat.
I love this recipe because you can easily make it dairy free just by changing the sour cream to non-dairy sour cream.
It is a wonderful fall treat as well because of the pumpkin spices whose aroma will fill your kitchen! 🙂 I hope you enjoy these scrumptious scones!
Ingredients/Grocery List
1 C. Sour Cream
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
4 C. Flour
1 C. Sugar
2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1/4 Tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 Tsp. Salt
1 C. Shortening
1 Egg
1/2 Tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 Tsp. Cinnamon
PLUS Cinnamon and Sugar to sprinkle on top prior to baking
Step One
Combine sour cream and baking soda in a small bowl.
Step Two
Stir flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt together in a separate bowl.
Cut shortening into dry ingredients. (as pictured below)
Step Three
Mix the egg into the sour cream, and then stir in the pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon.
Step Four
Sprinkle flour on the counter and then knead dough until it forms a ball.
(The dough will seem dry, but that is typical for a scone.)
Step Five
Spray baking sheet and press dough out into a large circle about 1/2-3/4″ thick.
Step Six
Using a pizza cutter, cut dough into wedges.
Step Seven
Separate scone wedges so that they do not touch.
I have to use two separate baking sheets to do this.
Step Eight
Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, then bake scones in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.
Let cool for 5 minutes.
Enjoy!
They are best fresh out of the oven, so plan accordingly! 🙂
