Clutter Piles Tackled

Since we’re talking about organizing this month, I want to show you a super simple plan I’ve put into place that has been a total lifesaver!

Clutter piles grow almost as fast as my kids do and it can be discouraging moving the same pile of stuff from table to piano to hutch to bed to couch to table…

A few weeks ago, I came up with the idea of using plastic totes to help sort my unorganized mess.  I was originally looking for baskets, as I wanted a place for the kids to turn in their completed lessons and pick them up when I am done grading them. While browsing through Walmart, I came across these smaller versions of the same totes I pack our unneeded clothes into and thought they’d be perfect.

These totes are a great size for papers—the bottoms of them are just about the same length and width of a notebook.  I like that they close up so our paper mess is not falling out all over the place.  My kids love using them because they like to see if there’s anything in the “done” box for them to come and correct.

This concept is not just for homeschoolers, but for anyone who does the Clutter-Pile Shuffle!  They could read “To Do” and “To File”—they’d be great for scrapbookers who need to sort the project they’re working on from the supplies they’re using for the project.  The possibilities are endless; but the great thing is that, at the end of the day, the lid goes on and they get stacked away neatly.  Best of all, your bed and couch are free to relax on!
