Attentiveness Vs. Distraction

Definition ~ Showing the worth of a person or task by giving my undivided attention.

I Will….

* Look at people when they speak to me

* Ask questions if I don’t understand

* Sit or stand up straight

* Not draw attention to myself

* Keep my eyes, ears, hands, feet and mouth from distractions

Week One Activities

(Practicing ~ Look at people when they speak to me)

* Practice throughout the family to stop, and give your full attention when being spoken to

Times to Remind

* When you’re speaking to someone, ask them to stop and look at you

* Remind yourself to give your full attention when you’re being spoken to

Week Two Activities

(Practicing ~  Ask questions if I don’t understand)

*Play Guess Who and/or Twenty Questions

Times to Remind

* During school or homework

* Instead of getting frustrated when you don’t understand the kiddos ~ ask questions!

Week Three Activities

(Practicing ~  Sit or stand up straight)

* Have your kiddos stand up straight and tall next to you ~ seeing how they measure up.

Ask them to slouch and see how much height they lose.

Teach them good posture, reminding them that slouching will reveal itself when they are older.

Times to Remind

* When kiddos are slouching

* Remember when you are too!

Week Four Activities

(Practicing ~ Not draw attention to myself)

* Play the quiet game

Times to Remind

* When someone is distracting you from what you’re doing

* Remember this yourself at home and at work

Week Five Activities

(Practicing ~ Keep my eyes, ears, hands, feet and mouth from distractions)

* During family time practice paying attention and not giving into a distraction or being a distraction

Times to Remind

* During family time, school or homework time

* Keep yourself from being a distraction!

In what ways do you and your family work on being attentive to one another?

How about outside the home?
