Sowing Into Our Children with Wisdom Wednesday Link Up

Galatians 6:9 – And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

As the school year begins along with the fights to conquer the homework battle, the fall reminds us that the harvest is here!  It is FINALLY time for the season when the fruit of your hard work is returned to you.

In my own life, I look forward to this season… it’s the season where picking fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful, family returns home, and bonuses from work show you how much the company values your hard work. Well, I don’t get financial bonuses anymore because my new job is being a mother.

Motherhood brings its own set of harvests. In October, especially, when the kids return to school… and the homework pours in that was actually from the year before, you expect to have some pushback from the child. The fear of hours of struggling to get a simple assignment completed becomes a reality. Every year, the teacher assures you that it won’t be that much homework and every year, having only an hour of it would be great!

Until you sit down at the table, as you expect to review and remind (and remind again) the principles that you taught last year, only to have them whiz through it. And this year, they are just a little bit more excited to do their homework (and be done). Instead of your argument lasting an hour, it lasts a half… and you can move on to different things.

Galatians 69

Sitting down with your preschooler for the third time that day, this time giving her paper and crayons to draw while you help the other child, and she just sits there and doodles for a good five minutes while you explain the directions.

See, being mother is less about having kids and more about not growing weary. Teaching, molding, and sculpting your children becomes a long-suffering process…

But the harvest! Oh, the harvest when you see them love and enjoy what you’re teaching them. When they ask you a question instead of getting frustrated that they don’t get it or they are stuck doing it. Or in times where they just sit and read… by themselves just because they want to.

That’s a harvest that makes all of the sowing worth it. To see the joy when they put their positive energy into their work, whether it be school work, art, sports, or just having fun!

Along with my recent move and my new ability to live closer to my in-laws so that more love and support can sow into the lives of my children.

What are you looking forward to harvesting this season?
