Goodness in Our Homes (Series Part 6) w/Linky

This post has been moved to my new blog that launches on Jan. 1st, 2014. Please swing by this link to read the post after the new year.

Being good is definitely something I want to be known for. I don’t want to be looking out for me, I desire to touch other people’s lives and make a difference for Christ.

Thank you for sharing this. I often need the reminder to do these simple things for my family as it’s easy to get caught up in a routine or responsibilities and forget to bless my husband and children in the little things.

Whenever I think of goodness, I think of Psalm 23 where it says His goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives. God is so good to us and we should strive to reflect that goodness to others.

Amen! 🙂 That is a such a great way to remember how to ensure goodness is shown to others. It is very easy to get caught up in what “needs” to be done. I struggle with that daily, and I pray that I will learn to just stop and take in the moments. Thank you for stoppin by! Blessings!

  2. God's character

I think goodness is one thing in particular that can end up so leagalistic. We might do good things for our families but not be doing it with the right motivation and so we won’t be showing goodnes, but just doing something good. But you know, when we allow God to make us good then we will naturally do good things for our families and show them by our example what it means to be good.

Legalism can overtake pretty much anything, if we strive to do things in and of ourselves. The realization that we are unable to rightly do anything of ourselves without Christ, is imperative. The Holy Spirit’s working in our lives is key to becoming more like Christ, and serving through the Fruits of the Spirit. Thanks for bringing this up! Blessings!

I make my children’s bed sometimes, vacuum their room, make their work lunches, iron their clothes, do something they specifically request (I love it when grown kids ask a favor). Through all the years we homeschooled they all had a LOT of chores and helped with cleaning and laundry. They work a lot of hours now and my daughter is doing college, so it is my turn. I liked what you shared about goodness…but there is another aspect to goodness: Only God is good and I am not good at all without His indwelling in me. I can do all these things with a resentful heart wondering why they aren’t helping or I can rely on the Lord to live through me and not be so much like Martha!

    Thanks for hosting today Misty.

Oh yes! In and of myself I am not good. Through this series I am trying to learn and encourage how to use the fruits in our homes, without Christ and the Holy Spirit we are unable to do anything good. Thank you for stoppin by and linking up! Blessings!

Thank you for hosting. I am number 62 — Homeschooling Young Children, something that a number of people may be doing right now. So make it fun.
63 — Is the Bible Boring? Not a question you ask in Sunday School, but plenty of young people and children are willing to ask it — maybe that’s why Christ says we need to be like children to enter the kingdom of heaven — kids are honest!

Great link up! Thank you for taking time to host this. I really enjoyed your posts, especially the list of ways to show kindness around the home. We rent an apartment so we don’t have grass to mow, and we can’t wash our car here lol! So I will have to get creative on showing goodness to my husband. Maybe I will take out the garbage….

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Taking out the garbage would probably be something he’d see that you are doing! 🙂 That is a great idea! Thank you so much for your kind words and for stoppin by! Blessings!

I love your thoughts and think the same way, my family thinks I spoil them, but I enjoy doing things for them and others. Thanks for sharing my post to your Facebook.
    Have a wonderful week, Karren
