A Nurturing Love

Nurturing our children is so important, and Rosilind’s honest post on this topic has been moved here, on our new contributor blog, Marriage Motherhood and Missions. Please stop by, you are sure to be blessed in some way.

No other act of love can surpass the act of laying down our rights as wives and mothers. Because by surrendering our rights, we sacrifice those things in us that suck the life out of our homes, diminish joy and peace and limit the amount of love that is shared.

By sacrificing these rights, we remove all barriers and the pure love of Jesus is able to flow freely through us to build and nurture our family as God intended!

  2. I really love this post. I definitely know that phrase that just swirls in my mind when things are just going wrong ” Life’s not fair” . And praise God that Jesus saw how unfair life is and He still came and took our place!

  3. Oh my word, that was exactly what I needed to read this very moment in my life. Thank you for sharing your heart and helping others like me. Tara (The Proverbs 31Sanctuary)

    1. O Tara. I am so glad this spoke to you. I have to remind myself of this DAILY. (today was one of those days after being up all night with a sick baby….actually, multiple times this week) I think laying down our rights is something we’ll be doing for the rest of our lives. I doubt this is an area where someone can claim they’ve “arrived”. 🙂

  4. Great post! It’s so true what you said about laying down your rights as a wives and mothers, opening ourselves up to truly, deeply loving our spouses and children. My husband worked nights last year for 3 months. It was so frustrating never to be able to do anything with friends, almost always having to sleep alone, and never having my husband around to help with the house. I thought it was MY right to sleep with my husband every night, when in reality, it’s a privilege. I thought it was MY right to be able to do stuff with friends whenever I wanted to, and in reality, it’s a gift. I thought it was MY right to ask for (more like demand) help around the house, but then I realized it’s an honor to serve my husband and keep our home. I’m so grateful that God worked in my heart, helping me to cherish the moments I did get with my husband, rearranging my schedule to stay up late and sleep with him for part of the day, and helping us get precious alone time when no one else was up when he was off from work. Now he has a different job, and works different hours, and again, it’s an adjustment – serving dinner later, not as much time together when he gets home later, and going to bed earlier – but it’s a wonderful sacrifice and the moments we spend together are treasured and precious.

    1. Hannah – I totally relate to this. 110%. My husband works rotating shifts…all 3. Each week his schedule changes. Sometimes serveral times a week (this week he worked 2 days on 1st shift…and 2 days on 2nd shift – tomorrow he’s back to 1st shift again). Every week our whole family dynamic changes. He’ll be on graveyard next week – and like you’ll, I’ll be sleeping alone. That’s never fun. It took me a long time to joyfully accept what this means for our family now that we have children. Sometimes I still have to remind myself of my responsibility as the mood-setter in my home. But you are right – family time is far more precious to us, isn’t it. I treasure those “first shift weeks” when we have the WHOLE AFTERNOON together. Our friends know not to disturb us during those weeks. 🙂

  5. Hi Rosilind, I could so relate to your post. It is hard to give up all those rights but it is the only way. And when you release these rights and submit them to the Lord, He replaces it with peace and an inner joy you never expected. Thanks for linking up. I will be linking up above now
    God bless
