I'm in a Valley - Simply Helping Him: Marriage Experience from a Help Meet

I’m in a Valley

Over the last two weeks or so, I’ve been struggling showing my love to my husband.

After almost a week of fighting these feelings, my mom reminded me of a saying that I love, and hadn’t thought of during this time.

“Don’t doubt in the darkness, what you know to be true in the light.” <— Shine the Light….

I had been so focused on all the negative….the lack of communication….lack of time together….lack of intimacy, etc. That I didn’t stop and remember that God is with me, just as much in the dark times, as He is in the light.

I had forgotten that in order to stand on the mountaintop and have an amazing experience, I must walk through the valley, that I might ever be grateful for the mountaintop!

So I have been taking a small step at a time, to CHOOSE to show my husband that I love him.

* Making meals he loves

* Timing dinner so we can sit and eat as a family

* Detail cleaning and organizing the living room

* Scheduling a surprise Valentine/Birthday getaway for him and I, without kiddos

Picking up my feet to take these steps wasn’t easy.

When I know hubby and I aren’t connected, I shut down and retreat.

I knew I had to choose to keep loving him, even if I didn’t feel like it.

God being so amazing, reached down and fill me with love for my hubby all over again! I knew God would see me through the valley, and though I’m far from the mountain, I’m walking through the valley with my Father by my side.

I’m walking on….step by step….working on my hind’s feet……so that I will be ready to be set upon high places….

Psalm 18:33

He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.”

I made stew and biscuits for dinner–I dislike stew and biscuits . . . that is love! My man knows that I dislike stew and biscuits so he raved and raved about how I make the best stew and biscuits–we shared a silent smile. Then he played a few songs from the 70’s as we cleaned the kitchen.

I’m sure the kids thought that we have totally lost it.

Things aren’t exactly what they used to be BUT we have a very deep appreciation for each other.

Be blessed. Thanks for sharing in such a way that make us want to share too!

What a sweetheart you are! Last night I was making fried pork chops and he asked me if I was making “shake n bake”, I took the time to throw his in the oven. It changed my plans, but made him happy πŸ™‚ Blessings hun!

You got it right Misty, having that servant’s heart… It blesses and the blessings return 10 fold if not more. Have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

I was so blessed by this post. It does seem that those ‘valley times’ are long and sometimes too often. I applaud you for sticking to it! When I find it to be most difficult is when my eyes are not on the LORD. When we are both looking towards Him, I can reach over and grab my husbands hand and we are once again running the same direction.

    Blessings, Gretchen πŸ™‚

Oh yes, our eyes must be set on Him; He is the Author and Finisher of our faith and through Him alone will we finish well! Thank you for stoppin by, linking up and blessing my heart! Blessings to you and yours!

I have been there, and it’s hard! after the birth of our 2nd baby I was so worn out from chasing 2 kids and recovering myself, that I didn’t have energy to do anything to make him feel loved or appreciated, and I was resenting him for not doing the same for me! I realized that he was probably just as worn out as I was, and some one would have to make the first move, so I did, and things got a lot better! I have found that I have to be much more intentional in the season of life that we are in now, but it is worth it!

I hope that’s encouraging to you! I don’t know what circumstances have brought you to this place, but I know that God is greater than whatever troubles you are facing <3

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Yes, being intentional in our words and actions is key. Doesn’t mean it is easy, but nothing worth doing ever is πŸ˜‰ Blessings sis!

    Lovely post, and great quote.

β€œDon’t doubt in the darkness, what you know to be true in the light.”

Keep on stepping forward, and leaning on Him as you go! God loves a cheerful giver, but God also loves a humble receiver! πŸ™‚

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Yes, though sometimes I’m not “stepping” forward, I’m “falling” forward. Thank you for your kind words! Blessings!

  12. Auntie Em/Melinda Stanton

Thanks for sharing this– you are modeling good “servant” behavior; putting on your apron and serving regardless of your emotions telling you to be selfish! A perfect representative of my post this week lol!

    Dearest friend,

Thank you so much for sharing your struggles so openly. Each and every time I have read your posts, I’ve been humbled by your raw willingness to openly expose your heart. I love the way you look to the Saviour in all things, and the way that He so faithfully comes to your aid each and every time.

I can relate to you in many ways. My hubby and I will have been married 14 years in March, and we had many hardships, similar to the ones you describe on your blog.

But please be encouraged, dear one. As you get through each and every one of the tough times, God is honouring your perseverance, and your seeking Him, and marriage will get richer and better and more and more blessed as they years go by.

My hubby and I still have our moments, but when I look back to even 5 or 6 years ago, I can’t compare how wonderful our marriage is now to the way it was then.

This of course was only possible with God, and I remember those dark times so well, where God’s light was all I could hold on to.

May He continue to carry you and your beloved, and sanctify you both daily to resemble the Son of God more and more.

    With my love,
    Tehila

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Oh, thank you so much for your encouragement. I am so thankful that you took time out of your day to speak to my heart. Blessings to you and in your marriage!
