I Changed My Mind with Wisdom Wednesday Link Up

I haven’t been counting as of late, and I know you can tell…..

Recently, I came across a couple books and their reviews, and they made me stop.

I became thankful for something that in 7 years of marriage, I’ve never been thankful for……even hated.

The books I’m referring to are, “For Women Only” and “What Your Husband Isn’t Telling You”.

Now, I will tell you; I have read the first book, but I have not read the second. So I have no knowledge personally, only what I’ve read from reviews.

These books claim to give you inside info on men; how they tick, what they think, like, need, etc. Things our men don’t or won’t tell us.

As I read the first book, I couldn’t believe women didn’t know these things about their husbands. Topics such as how many times they REALLY think about s–, checking out other women, who is the most beautiful woman in their eyes, what they REALLY think about your clothes & hair, what they’d rather have shown by action~ love or respect, etc.

I found I knew 90% of what they were “revealing”. And I hated it. ย ย

I’ve seen reviews for the second book, stating things like, “I don’t want to know”, “Now I look at him and wonder what he’s thinking…..what he’s not telling me”….

Today……for the first time…..

I’m thankful I know exactly what he’s thinking…..

About work…..about s–, other women, love vs. respect, etc.

I would not want to wonder, worry or be unaware of how he ticks.

Though honesty isn’t always pleasant, I’m thankful I’m not in the dark.

Wow. I never thought about it that way. Really good point that we don’t want and don’t need to know some of those things.

Glad you linked up this week at Life:Unmasked!

I find it interesting the most of the time, my husband is seriously thinking about nothing. It blows my mind because I’m always thinking about something!! Your link up has grown!!! Thanks for sharing with WIP!!

LOL! That is funny. My hubby often says that and other times he has lots to say! I’m the opposite ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m always talking! LOL! Yes it has! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m excited! ๐Ÿ™‚ Blessings!

What a great post Misty… Like you I have read many books on marriage throughout my 28 years and like you I didn’t always like what I read but I found myself often blessed later and happy that I was learning to know my husband a little more each day. Even more than talking together, which is crucial is learning to appreciate the quite times but the most powerful times in our marriage is when we pray together. That is when I feel the closest and most intimate with him.

    1. simplyhelpinghim

That is awesome! What a blessing you have that your husband is willing to pray with you! It truly is one of the closes and most intimate times that can be had between a husband and wife! Thanks for stoppin by sis! Blessings!

Hubs and I are honest with each other, though I do think that there are certain things I don’t need to know. Or that he needs to know. We can’t completely control our thoughts(though we can try) and if I have an errant thought or he does, I don’t feel like we need to hurt each other by sharing it.

    1. simplyhelpinghim

No we can not control everything. Each couple must come to terms together as to what they desire to know or not know. Exactly my point as to why these books aren’t always right. We are all different and have different wants/needs. Blessings!

After many years of marriage, I still think I could learn more about how my husband thinks and ticks. I love Kevin Leman’s books on marriage but haven’t read the ones you mentioned though I have heard about them.

Thanks for the linkup today ๐Ÿ™‚

I have not read any of Kevin Lehman’s books, but I know I love to learn more about my hubby. I find that time with him and asking him questions gets me further than someone who is guessing and generalize men. Thanks for stoppin by ๐Ÿ˜‰ Blessings!

I find those books generalize us and our husbands We weren’t all built the same. We all come with different baggage. Thankfully we have a God that knows this and loves us where we are and teaches us to do the same.

Amen! ๐Ÿ™‚ That is so true! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stoppin by! Blessings!

Agreed! It reminds me of a Priscilla Shirer story. A friend of hers had met someone on the internet and they’d been talking for over a couple of months (text and voice) and were soon to meet. Priscilla asked if he was a Christian and the girl hemmed and hawed and said, “Well we really haven’t discussed that so I don’t know.” Priscilla was aghast. If he was a Christian man you would have known it.
Throughout my life I’ve been constantly amazed watching friends not ask the right questions and not want to know – as if – if they don’t know it somehow makes it okay. I am now part of a church that won’t marry anyone who doesn’t go through their 6-month (marriage following biblical principles) program before hand. It’s the smartest thing I’ve heard of in a long time!
    Thanks for this Misty!
    Blessings,
    Felecia

That is so true! I wholly agree that good solid biblical counseling is so important! Asking your friends and family to be completely 100% honest is very important as well. I know first hand that you can make it through counseling and still fool everyone. ๐Ÿ™ Thanks for stoppin by sis! Blessings!
