There are so many words in my life, lots of them are written here. Some only are spoken in my home. Some more are on display at church and in public. Yet more words are spoken in my heart, only for my God to hear.
Yet, today as my Pastor was sharing a statement. One that I’ve heard time and time again, it was the words spoken in my home that I thought of today.
“What goes in your head, goes to your heart, out of your mouth and into your actions.” Β ~Pastor Vinson~
What words and pictures am IΒ putting in my family’s heads?
I wish I could say that what comes out of my kiddo’s mouths and how they act shows all love, kindness and goodness. Yet. I can not.
I wish I could say that my words and actions are all love, kindness, and goodness. Yet. I can not.
I wish I could blame my past; abuse and all, for my words and actions. Yet. I can not.
Each moment of difficulty provides the same choice for the right words, as does each moment of success. <— Tweet
I choose the words and actions I say and display.
It is by God’s grace alone that I have made some progress in the last 4 years. I am so thankful for His mercy and grace.
Based on my kiddos words and actions lately, I have a long way yet to go.
I need to pause and truly think before I speak and act. Their words and actions are highly based off of mine since we are together almost 24/7.
Words. They can bring life or they can bring death.
Actions. They can show love or they can show anger.
What do your words say to your family? Β Β
What do you actions convey to those you love?

My mom used to tell tell me to watch my words all the time. Now I tell everyone else!
Unkind words, once spoken, can never be forgotten, only forgiven.

This is difficult, because in the same way that I am responsible for my words, not my circumstances, my children are responsible for their words, not me. But we influence one another. But we’re responsible for our actions. It’s a push and pull, and I know I have a long way to go, too. LONG.

Yes, they are responsible, but if our words are spoken in haste or anger, then that will teach them to do the same. I believe that makes us responsible for them, because we are responsible for teaching them. Does that make sense? Blessings!

Sometimes it’s easy to speak before we have a time to think about our words. Important to be mindful.

Yes it is, so very easy. We must learn to stop and think before we speak.

I love that quote by Pastor Vinson… Awesome and so much truth. As I grow older I have learned to bite my tongue and if I have to it seems to hurt a lot more now than it did when I was younger.

Yes, isn’t that interesting that it hurts more now than when we were younger? I think my problem is I get to the point where I feel I “know it all” and need to share it. :/ Blessings friend!

I never honestly thought much about what I was watching and how it contributed /affected my life until recently. I used to think oh I believe one thing and tv or music doesn’t affect me. That’s silly but the truth is it does! I never paid attention before. BUT, what goes in my brain, what goes before my eyes. It’s actually a pretty big deal! Great post!

I have spent this past year reading through the Bible highlighting verses – or portions of – that talk about how we ought to talk. It has been an incredible study!! I still have quite a ways to go before I have completed the entire Bible, but it has been such a convicting challenge.
Thanks for sharing this encouragement today!

It is a constant battle, isn’t it? This war with the flesh and the tongue. We have to keep fighting though, by His grace and in His power, and teach our kids to fight and to cling to Him as well.
His grace- this is my hope.
And theirs, too.

Taming my tongue has always been a struggle. I have a hard time of letting words fly when I’m angry or frustrated. You speak truth here though. It helps not that I have a budding talker–he copies everything I say, so I’m more careful!
