Did you know that you are an evangelist? Did you know that once you become a Christian you are called to be an evangelist? Does that sound a little scary or intimidating to you?

It’s really not.

An evangelist is someone who tells people about Christ and shares the good news of accepting Him as their savior.

That’s it.

No, you don’t have to have big hair and a television show to be an evangelist, you just have to love Christ and be willing to share Him with the people around you. If you’ve ever spoken to someone about Jesus and/or lead him or her to Christ, then you can call yourself an evangelist. Pretty simple, huh?

Here’s something else to consider:

You can evangelize with your actions as well if not better than with your words. Really? Evangelize with my actions? Sure thing!

As Christians, we’ve been set apart. We are to be in the world but not of it. We are to be Jesus in the skin.

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 says “For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”

Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary says this about 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12: “Mildness and tenderness greatly recommend religion, and are most conformable to God’s gracious dealing with sinners, in and by the gospel. This is the way to win people. We should not only be faithful to our calling as Christians, but in our particular callings and relations. Our great gospel privilege is, that God has called us to his kingdom and glory. The great gospel duty is, that we walk worthy of God. We should live as becomes those called with such a high and holy calling. Our great business is to honor, serve, and please God, and to seek to be worthy of him.”

What type of testimony are you going to be if you “talk the talk” but don’t “walk the walk”? Are your words going to have any weight with Christians and non-Christians alike if you profess to have Jesus in your heart but act like you’ve never even heard of Him?

How authentic are you going to be?

I am in no way saying you need to be perfect. I am not perfect and about the only thing I am perfect at is being a perfect mess…and I even mess that up at times! And I am most certainly pointing this mirror back at myself, too. I am flesh and I don’t always demonstrate Christian love grace or mercy.

Actions DO speak louder than words. I am a work in progress. I know that I have to call on His help every minute of every day to keep me in this world but not of it.

I want to be the authentic evangelist that He has called me to be. I want people to hear AND see His words of love, grace and mercy spilling out of my mouth AND my actions. I want to have a “walk worthy of God”.
