I’m in love with my hubby.
It is true.
I love to have him home, and I miss him when he is away.
I am blessed that he is self employed. This enables him to pick the days, hours, etc. for his schedule. Being a fisherman does mean he has to fish when the weather is good though. Yet he does have some flexibility. I remind myself of this blessing often.
When he does go fishing, often it is for 2 days at a time. This means, he’s gone overnight. Out on the ocean 4-6 hours away and returns late the following evening. Definitely not a favorite schedule of mine.
Today I found myself watching the clock, calling his cell to see if it’s been powered up yet….anticipating his return home….to my arms.
I wish I could say this is how much I look forward to him coming home every day, but it’s not. There are difficult days with the kiddos, school, etc…..life happens.
I cherish the time I have with my hubby. He is my best friend. Life is too short, to not savor every moment we are blessed with.
I encourage you today….this week, to take a few minutes. Pretty yourself up a bit, and anticipate your hubby’s homecoming!
He is your groom ~ your lover ~ your friend! Hold him in your arms and let him know it!
Oreo Recipe (as promised)
Due to Kraft taking a stance that I don’t agree with, I will no longer be purchasing my all time favorite cookies. So I had to make my own!
I started with the recipe that I link to above, but tweaked it a bit π
Cookie Dough
1 1/2 C. Flour (I used Whole Wheat)
1/2 C. Unsweetened Cocoa
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/4 tsp. Baking Powder
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 C. Sugar (I used Sugar in the Raw)
1/2 C. plus 2 Tbl. Butter (I used Earth Balance)
1 Egg
In a medium mixing bow, stir together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and powder, salt and sugar.
Beat in the butter and egg, continuing to mix until the dough one mass.
Place teaspoons of batter for each cookie side and place on parchment paper-lined cookie sheets. (I flattened on my hand before placing on the cookie sheet, but you could cut them with a cookie cutter if you wanted perfect circles.)
Bake for 8 min. at 375 degrees. Let sit on cookie sheet for 1-2 min and then remove to rack to cool completely.
FillingΒ
1/4 C. Butter (I used Earth Balance)
1/4 C. Shortening
2 C. Powdered Sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla
Place butter and shortening in mixing bowl, gradually beat in the sugar and vanilla.
For 2-3 minutes beat on high, until the filling becomes light and fluffy.
When cookies have cooled, add the filling to the cookies. I used the Pampered Chef Decorator BottlesΒ to fill my cookies.
*Please note that because I used the Sugar in the Raw, my cookies had “crunch” to them. If you don’t want that texture I would suggest using regular sugar, we just don’t use it in our home. This did not affect the taste, it’s just a different texture.*
Enjoy! They’re super yummy!

What a sweet reminder to love our husbands! I remember when we first got married, I’d brush my teeth, hair, touch up my makeup right before Adam came home and then I’d race to the door as soon as I heard it open, throw my arms around him, and kiss him. I need to start doing that again. Thanks for linking up at NOBH. I enjoyed this post!

What a sweet reminder to love our husbands. And the recipe looks wonderful! Can I suggest a super fine sugar in place of the raw sugar if no crunch is wanted? You can find it at natural food stores. Thank you for sharing at WJIM.

I will have to look into the fine sugar you speak of, we are very particular what we use. Thank you for the idea though! π Less crunch would make them more yummy π Thank you for stoppin by! Blessings!

I try to always look presentable for my hubby. It is rare that I have a day where I “let myself go”, but I also don’t put on a false look either. I am clean, dressed, hair somewhat done (with curly hair, you never know what I might look like), and some sort of good smelling body spray. My husband met me in college and I went to school in my pjs and a bandana on my head. I am a very casual girl. I don’t even own lipstick. But, I never want to be that stay at home Mom who forgets her husband is coming home. So I definately agree. And by the way, I love your new site. I did my own site too.

Curly hair is fun isn’t it? My daughter has ringlets and she hates that we have to brush her hair b/c if we don’t it gets so tangled. I too don’t “over do” myself, yet always try to appear “kept” and “lovely” as I know my husband sees it. Each hubby and wife are different, so how “kept” and “lovely” you are depends on the couple. I love my site too, I have a few more tweaks to work out, but all in all I love it! π Blessings friend! π

This post was so good. I love my husband too. We have been married for 36 years, and he has been retired for about 8 years now…so we spend a lot of time together. He is my best friend, and he treats me so nice and takes such good care of me. He is a wonderful father and grandfather too…so I am really blessed. He accepted the Lord 18 years ago, and our marriage has been enriched by sharing the love of the Lord!
Those cookies sound yummy. I have an egg and nut allergy, so I don’t buy cookies. But I do enjoy making them.
Have a nice 4th of July!
God bless!

I am always so happy to hear about marriages that have been around a long time! What a blessing it is to me! My parents will hit their 30 year mark in just a few months. It is such an encouragement to me! Thank you for sharing! I have a milk allergy, so I make most of our food from scratch, so I understand the difficulty in buying things π Thank you for stoppin by! Blessings!

Well, now! There’s one wonderful thing I can do for my hubby: make those cookies! He loves Oreos (actually Hydrox), and I love things to be homemade with healthier ingredients, like yours (plus he really prefers homemade anything if I have a version I do.) I think I’ll try to have a batch ready tonight when he gets back from his Bible study. Thanks!

Let me know what he thinks π I am the real Oreo fan in our family, so I love that I have some a healthier way to enjoy them. Especially b/c of Kraft’s newest stance :/ Thank you for stopping by! Blessings!

Thumbs up! He’s the Oreo/Hydrox person here, so he was the best judge. Excellent is the word! I don’t know if you can get Hydrox cookies, or who makes them, etc., but in my mind they’re twins with Oreos, although Husband claims Hydrox is better. So, if available where you live, maybe you can buy them when you don’t have time to bake… Thanks for the smile-producing recipe!

I’m glad that he liked them! I will have to look into Hydrox, thanks for that idea! I do like the ability to grab and go, but stances companies take sometimes make that impossible. Thank you for stoppin by and lettin me know what he thought! π

Wow, homemade oreos! They simply must be even yummier than the storebought–all homemade cookies are. That little extra ingredient of love makes all the difference. I love your advice here, too, my friend. My family has been camping out at my in-laws this week as we wait for our electricity to come back on following those storms. We’ve had a lot of together time. But I find I am anticipating being in our own home–together. Lovely thoughts.

They are yummy, the crunchiness b/c of the Sugar in the Raw takes some getting used to, but they are awesome! π Coming home is always amazing, no matter how much I love being away for a time, I love coming home! May your time be blessed with your in laws, and your return home sweet! Blessings friend!

This is so important! I think one of the first things to go in a marriage are the little pleasantries and affectionate gestures. I’m so glad you are making it a priority and still feeling every bit of it too! I need to be better about this, so your words encourage me to stay on track! Thanks for your wise words and your yummy recipe!

Oh My goodness, those cookies look so yummy! They have to be better than the store bought ones anyways!!
So often, I’m a mess when hubby gets home from work!! I do try to remember to get myself together and look nice, but some days it just doesn’t happen. Thankfully, he loves me anyways!
The site looks great from my computer too! I’m impressed with your skills. I have no idea how to go about doing what you did! π

They were yummy! I must say! Oreo’s are my all time favorite cookie. I have to be dairy free, so they are one of the only cookies I can grab and eat. I will miss that about them. Yet I am thankful that I was able to find this recipe!
I too struggle with not being a mess when hubby gets home. Since I have a baby in the home Monday-Friday full time, I get up and get dressed early now. This has helped me in this area! π
It was not my computer skills really, it was the fact that I didn’t really have the $ to spend and have someone do it for me. I went into Powerpoint and created the look I wanted and worked ALL day yesterday to get it where it is now! I would like to tweak a couple things still, but am happy with it even if I don’t!
Blessings friend!
