Today I am blessed to have two friends in my corner!
Joyce from It’s Your Life is sharing with us from a healthy, physical perspective! Thank you so much for sharing in my corner! Be sure to stop by hers and show her some love!
Many times we are asked “How are you?” and reply “Good” even if we are not. However, I have also been honest when answering this question, sometimes I would say “Good,” or if the day was so so I would reply “Could be better, could be worse.” Now when people ask how I am doing the majority of the time I reply “Excellent,” because most of the time that is how I am.
I have found that with three key ingredients in my life I can say I am excellent, and totally mean it. The three ingredients are proper nutrition, exercise, and the best one, God. I started listening to my body over twenty years ago when I had put on too much extra weight. I noticed that when I ate certain foods I would feel lazy, worn down, tired, or like I had just eaten a boulder that weighed me down. Exercise became an important tool for me to take off that extra weight. However, at this point and time God was nowhere to be seen in my life. While I was getting into shape, turning heads, and feeling better, something was missing which I would not realize until years later.
Food is fuel for our bodies, and many people in our society eat because it tastes good, that was me too. It took me a year to change my eating habits, and stop drooling at the checkout counter as my favorite candy bars taunted me. But, I held fast and eliminated all the foods that did not make my body, or me feel good. I learned that when I had a craving for something it was better to eat that instead of other things which did not eliminate the craving, and caused me to eat more. Eating sweets, and chips in moderation, which meant if I craved chips a handful was enough. If I craved cookies, three was plenty, and a sliver of cake would do me just fine. As time went by I noticed that the foods I used to enjoy no longer tasted the way I remembered, which is fine with me.
Exercising was hard at first, but once I started seeing results it became a drug I just had to have. I became addicted to working out, and it was not a bad thing. I was not obsessed with it I just knew that I was getting into shape, feeling better, and I was looking better in the mirror. Over the years I would stop for whatever reason, but always picked it up again remembering how it made me feel. I have also learned that working out with light weights builds strong bones. Strong bones means no osteoporoses, and it can even reverse the symptoms if you have it. God has placed a hormone in our bodies that acts like morphine when we are involved in cardiovascular activity. I discovered this when I worked out during my menstrual cycle, and my cramps would subside. Research lead me to the discovery what I have jsut shared with you. However, I do not think this applies to more serious injuries, such as a broken leg.
Great I am eating better, exercising, and feeling great. I have a great job, a gorgeous boy friend, from the outside it looked like I had it all, but not true, something was still missing. Even after marring my best friend, and having a little blessing from heaven, I was still not as happy as I felt I should be. While at a Tae Kwon Do class another student told me about his church, and I decided to visit. A year later I dedicated my life to Jesus, I gave Him everything, I did not want to do anything that God did not have a purpose for me to do. That was back in April of 1997, and I have never looked back, while life is still life I would rather do with God than without Him.
So, if you want to be able to say you are doing excellent start changing what you can. If you are able exercise, change the way you look at food, and how you eat, but above all put God in the number one spot of your life.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me (KJV)
My favorite Bible verse for strength is Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
About me: I am the mother of three, wife, and friend of God. At forty eight years old I am med free, and have a clean bill of health. I thank God for giving me the ability to continue to work out the way I always have, hard. Over the past twenty plus years of working out on a regular basis I have learned how important it is to overall health. Changing my eating habits while hard has also proven to be very beneficial to my current health. After years of blogging on homeschooling I felt lead to share what I have learned, and continue to learn about fitness and nutrition. It is all about health not your weight, or what size jeans you wear.

Oh, how I can relate to this. I struggle with chronic fatigue a lot, even as someone on a real, whole foods diet 90% of the time. All of these things truly do work together to the good of our health, and I love how you included God in the equation. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for linking up with Christian Mommy Blogger!
