Expect and Attempt…..with Wisdom Wednesday Link Up

Who’s in the SPOTLIGHT!?!

Nicole from Seven Flowers’ post “10 Ways to Find Miracles in Your Life” caught my attention this week!

The simplicity of the 10 steps is wonderful, but life changing! Be sure to swing by her corner and see what she’s up to!

** Due to minimal traffic on the weekend, I’ve moved the SpotLight to my Wisdom Wednesday posts going forward, I want to bring traffic to your corner too so I hope this helps! 🙂

Expect and Attempt……

Every year our Pastor chooses (through much prayer and with God’s direction) a theme for our church.

I always strive to bring it home and make it personal. Thinking, “How can I as a part of this church fulfill a part of this year’s theme?”

Last we (2011), we focused on the woman at the well.  I focused on meeting people right where they were at. I listened, I prayed, I counseled, I was there for whomever needed me, whenever they needed me.

This year’s theme has had me stumped for the last 10 months. Yes. 10 months.

It seemed so big. My season in life wasn’t right for it.

God had another plan.

A few weeks ago during Sunday School, the theme was staring at me, as it has all year.

“Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.”

In the still small voice you must be sitting still to hear. God spoke to my heart. He made the theme personal. He brought it home.

“Expect me to do great things in your marriage, Misty.”

This brought tears to my eyes, and if anyone saw I’m sure they were wondering why David, Joab & Amasa were making me cry.

My marriage has been a bit rocky lately and God whispering to me to expect great things from Him for it was amazing.

He wasn’t done whispering though.

“Attempt great things FOR Me….love your husband as I have loved you.”

Oh boy. I love my husband. Yet I know I don’t love him as God loves me. I never can because His love is perfect, He is perfect. And I never will be.

Did you catch the first word in that instruction though?

Attempt.

I don’t have to do it perfectly. I don’t have to feel like a failure when I don’t do it right.

I am to try. To work at it. To do my best with God at my side.

So here goes nothing.

Expect and Attempt…….GREAT THINGS!

  1. That is just what I needed to hear and be reminded of. ATTEMPT! The problem I have is that i don’t even want to attempt a lot of the time unless I know i’ll succeed.

    1. Yes! Attempt! It isn’t easy to attempt something that you aren’t confident you’ll succeed in, I understand that completely! 🙂 I’ll be praying for ya girly! 🙂 Blessings! 🙂

  2. Loving as He loves… so beautiful, yet so impossible!
But he clothes us with His righteousness and His love…so as you attempt to love your husband, never forget to receive that unconditional love from Jesus first! His Word will be your encouragement, and His strength, yours!

  3. Hmmm, rocky marriages, I think we all deal with that from time to time, eh?
Expect great things from God… how true is that. I for one know this, I fail at trusting,
it’s the hardest thing for me to do. I will fight and struggle and try to do every
thing my self and yet, perhaps I need to trust God to perform great things in my life.
    Love you sis!

    1. That is true, marriages have hard times throughout the years. Trusting is so important, but not always easy. God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think! 🙂 Love ya too sis! 🙂

  4. Hi Misty, I am in the same season, Misty. Trying to love my husband even as marriage is a bit rocky. Trying not to nag or complain or overcorrect. Thanks for the reminders. And I like the linky tool you are using now. I think it is friendlier, but that may be because I am used to it!

    1. Marriage will have rocky times, it is during those times I am learning that I can minister to my children and my husband! Loving them through the hard times, unconditionally! Praying for you girly! 🙂 I like the Linky Tools too 🙂

  5. Oh Misty,
God’s pronouncement to you brought tears to my eyes! Meaning (for me) that it was definitely Him speaking to you. Praying for you both as you attempt to love each other as Jesus loves and has loved. A heady concept. Just look toward Jesus, put your hand in His, and say, “Show me.” He will.
    Blessings,
    Felecia

  6. Oh yeah… To hear that whisper with your whole soul, knowing full well that whisper is the God of heaven… so relevant, straight truth, pure wisdom…. So glad you shared this. Attempt doesn’t mean try and never fail…. Love that! So encouraging!!

  7. Your post was lovely, and hopeful, and real. I love it when God breathes vision and hope into an are of our lives that needs his touch. How humbling to hear his voice, feel his touch, and share his power. May God enable you to obey, in faith and submission, to the calling he has placed on your life. Visiting today from Be Not Weary and glad I did.
