K5 Online Learning Review

As a homeschooler I am always on the lookout for learning products for my kiddos. I was excited to stumble across the K5 Learning Program, and we received a free 5 week trial in exchange for a review here at Simply Helping Him.

The first item we completed was their online assessment test, I was excited to see where my kiddos would place on a grade level. It has been a tough year for homeschooling due to family difficulties, so I wanted to see how they had done despite this.

While they were each taking their tests, I left them alone, but stayed within ear shot. I did not want them asking for my help, as I wanted the test to be an accurate account of where they were academically. I found that many of the math problems given in the test, were not written as they would be in a typical textbook. Thus I feel portions of the testing were difficult because my kiddos had not seen questions given in that manner. This however did not keep my kiddos from loving the testing, nor from scoring in their grade level.

The kiddos truly loved “playing the games” on the K5 Learning Program. The math challenges were fun and engaging as well. They both found the math program to be the most fun! The reading lessons were also geared towards a different learning style than my kiddos have learned. The phonics given were not lined up with the phonics we use. This I believe is why they enjoyed the math program better than the reading program.

The K5 Learning ProgramĀ is very engaging and fun for kiddos! The games provide an interactive learning system that they will want to play!

I do not believe we will continue with the K5 Learning Program, because it would only be for the math program, as my kiddos did not use the reading nor spelling programs. It would not be cost effective for us. I also do not want my children to lean on learning solely on the computer. I believe that they need to be taught how to use textbooks, for they will have to later in life. I think too many electronics given to a child, can create issues later in life when textbooks are the only option.

  1. I could have used something like this several years ago when I was homeschooling my oldest three. They are all grown and gone now. I do have three more that are not old enough for school yet but their father is so set against homeschooling. He simply does how unsettling public schools are.

Thank you for the review. I will go and check them out. I might be able to convenience hubby that we really need to homeschool (by the time they become school age!)
