How easy is it for you to stop and just be still?
This is something that I struggle with greatly.
I always feel like there are a million things to do,
and usually there are.
Yet I am learning how very important it is,
to just be still.
Psalm 46:10a
“Be still, and know that I am God….”
God requests of us to “be still”.
What does “being still” mean exactly?
The Definition of Still
Quiet; calm; not disturbed by noise
To stop, as noise
Quiet; calm; not agitated
I know that my home is not “still” by any stretch.
Two very active children, a dog, and a cat,
all contribute to the non stillness of my home.
Thus I have had to find the time that there is
stillness in my home.
My favorite time has become the early morning hours.
I get up before anyone else,
make my coffee and grab my stack of devotional materials.
This is my “being still” time.
This is when I let nothing come against me,
push into my thoughts,
and my children know to let me be
if they happen to rise early.
In the past I would have needed my coffee
and some time to wake up before taking on my day.
I still like to have coffee and a little time in the morning,
but it is not as important anymore.
I have been ensuring I get 6-7 hours of sleep a night,
and then rising at 5am to have my “still” time.
This gives me 2 hours to have my
devotion and prayer time,
and blog.
It took about a month to get used to my new schedule,
I loved being a night owl.
That was my time,
reading, movies, etc.
Since getting used to the new schedule,
having time alone with God,
and just being still.
I would not want my night owl schedule back.
I love beginning my day with the stillness and
quiet that I receive with the Lord.
My day is begun in His Word,
in prayer with Him!
I love that!
If at all possible,
I encourage you to begin your day
with “being still” with the Lord.
It doesn’t have to be any certain way,
or certain amount of time.
I find that my days are more peaceful,
I am more loving and patient,
when I begin my days with
“being still.”
Encouraging you to be still
