Organizing Challenge with Link Up

Is your home an organizing challenge?

Organizing in my home can be a challenge. A lack of closets and two kiddos sharing a bedroom don’t make it any easier. Yet, still I must press on! :)

Organizing  the kiddos room

I rearrange it every few months. This enables us to deep clean, purge and reorganize. About two months ago I put all of their toys in under the bed Rubber Maid Containers. The only exceptions were games and books. I’ve found by providing a container for things to go under their beds, it keep the floor clean and the room tidy.

Organizing the Homeschooling curriculum

This is organized at the beginning of the school year. I have a bookshelf where everything for the year is stored. I organizing my entire school year using a 3 ring binder, which is divided by subject. Each subject has lessons/units planned out in detail for the whole year. I print all of the activity sheets and lapbook accessories before the year begins. For each subject I have a materials list, broken down for weekly needs. This enables me to purchase things as I need them. I use a simple planner (from the dollar store usually) to keep track of daily work and grades. At the end of our school year I store all workbooks, worksheets, art, etc. in a box should the state ever request to see proof of our homeschooling.

Organizing the Kitchen and Grocery Shopping

These two go hand in hand for me. I utilize a master grocery shopping list, which helps me to keep my cupboards organized. I have to be able to put my hands on things in order to know what I need, or don’t need. Having this list allows me to look through it for what I need to get while shopping. I find that having this list saves me time. It also saves me money as it keeps me from buying things I don’t need.

Organizing My writing schedule

Somehow (LOL) this has become busier in the last few months, and will continue to grow as the months progress. So, I’ve had to organize all my obligations, so I do not miss any due date. I’ve found that tackling my obligations a month at a time works really well. This allows me to write my own content on a weekly basis, as God speaks to my heart.

There are many more ways I would love to be organized, but these are four areas I find require the most detailed way of handling them.

Where do you find yourself most organized?

What would you like to organize better?

I would love to know more about those lists for homeschooling on here. Did you just read through the teachers manual and write down these things? How did you do them? I love, love, love, this idea but need more info on how to accomplish it since my brain is on summer break still! LOL!

    Blessings to you!

Yes, I go through each teacher’s manual and the student’s book as well. Sometimes there are things in one that isn’t in the other. I try to write down EVERYTHING that they suggest, because I know I will do more if I’ve written down all of the options. Let me know if you would like to chat more in detail. I am a planner, so I work through all of the books long before our school year starts, so I know what is coming. :) Blessings!

Misty…I am a list girl and I have to be organized. If I am not, I always miss something or get behind then I’m frustrated so I have to be on top of things. I just recently revamped my home binder for our new school year and plan to share it on my blog here soon. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Have a great rest of the week.

Yes, I am working on putting together a checklist and planner for myself. I’ve tried some, but they haven’t fit our family, so I think I need to make my own. LOL! Just another thing to do, but maybe I’ll use it if it’s catered to our family. Thanks for stoppin by! Blessings!

    Thank you for hosting.

I am number 63 — Affordable Homeschooling, because that’s the time of year we’re heading into — starting the new school year and looking through all of the catalogs. You can do this affordably and without stress, buying just what you need, and using what you have, well.

Number 64 has to do with saving money as well — Save $45 Instantly, and you don’t need a coupon, and it doesn’t matter what store you’re in.

I don’t know what I’d do without my lists! It’s the best way for me to keep organized and to get things done. : )

    1. simplyhelpinghim

I find that I do much better with lists too! :) Thanks for stoppin by! Blessings!

I struggle with this. I start out with good intentions and get stuff under control, but then have a hard time KEEPING it that way. I feel like the “perfect” system has to be out there – I’ve tried so many that are perfect for someone else, but never for me. Part of my problem is I can’t just “put it away” – I need to SEE it or else I forget/lose it.

There are many, many different ways of doing things and lots of people say it’s the PERFECT way to do it. Yet we are all unique in our own ways, so just because it’s “PERFECT” for someone else doesn’t mean that it’s “PERFECT” for me. That’s something I had to come to realize and I even shared about it over at Sarah’s Corner here. Praying you find the “PERFECT Meg” way! Blessings!

  9. Judith at WholeHearted Home

I always kept my homeschooling paperwork in one binder for the school year. I used forms or forms I made myself so that everything was typed up and easy to read. My children had binders that they put their different subjects in but usually these papers were kept in one binder and transferred if that binder became crammed full. We had paperwork that had to be turned into the government school throughout the year, so I kept their schoolwork too. Who can throw out interesting schoolwork…it is easy to throw out a workbook but not when it is a nature notebook or creative writing, or the Bible written out.

    Thanks for hosting today, Misty.

Your blog’s content is getting better and better. Thanks for letting me see what you ar e doing in your home to organize it.

I keep lists. I have even kept lists of my lists! Now I’m working with editing. Just moving out things we no longer need, or may need “someday.” I need the space today.

    Hi Misty,

I wish I could say I’m organized in all areas of my life. I love your list, I’m a big list person. My house is very organized and everything has its place. But my creative process works very different – how I wish this were as easy. Having that grocery shopping list is a must for saving money, for sure.

There are many areas that I would love to be better organized, but I am learning just to find better ways for things as they come along. I don’t know that it’s the “right” way to do things, but so far it’s what works for me. Thanks for stoppin by! Blessings!
