Spring has definitely begun around our place! This afternoon my son glanced out the sunny window and shouted, “Look! It’s snowing!” We all ran to the window and, sure enough, it did appear to be snowing. Once we went outside to check it out, we realized that it was actually the bright sunlight reflecting off the sheeting rain that made it look like snow.
Welcome to Eastern Oregon—one of those places where you can experience eight different weather types in the same day!
A few months ago, I found the greatest quote and have wanted to use it in a craft ever since. The quote was, “Relax. You’re home now.” Last week, I was doing a little bit of crafting, creating pretty things for our home for spring. I had some extra fabric from my romantic skirt project and came up with this adorable wreath—the perfect place for my quote.
It can sometimes be hard to bless my husband in my decorating, as our home is decked out in a very feminine, pink and lacy way. He’s just not into that. Ha! However, I think I was able to show him, in this case, that I’m thinking of him and want him to feel “at home” in his home.
For this project, you’ll need a few easy-to-find supplies:
- sturdy circular wreath base like one made of foam or heavy cardboard
- light-weight fabric—1/2 a yard, maybe?
- scissors
- hot glue gun
- paper doilies (optional)
As well as some pretty and unique-to-you embellishments:
Cut your fabric into strips—mine were about 2 inches wide. Wrap them around your wreath base, gluing here and there to secure the fabric.
Then, cut a strip for the hanger and knot at the top.
The next step came from an idea I saw on The Thrifty Groove. Cut your doilies into fourths and glue them to the back of the wreath with the lace edges showing around the inside and outside of the wreath.
Now it’s time to embellish your wreath! I used a birdie that I’ve had forever—I think I got it at JoAnn’s. I found these other pretty flowers and nests at Hobby Lobby last week. It was my first visit there—I’m in love!
When it came time to attach the quote, I used a decorative clothespin glued to the wreath to hang the quote paper from. This way, I can change out the paper from time to time, depending on what message I’d like to send.
I used my MyMemories Digital Scrapbooking Software to create the quote and glued it to one of the paper doilies. As you can see, I changed the quote up a bit since I don’t know who to attribute it to.
