Friend Friday with The Houtz House Party

Welcome to Friend Friday! Check out the adorableness in the picture of my guest today! Be sure to swing by her corner!

Hi friends of Misty.  I am
really happy to be here today @ Simply Helping Him.  My name is Kelly & I blog @ The Houtz House Party.  I am a wife and mama to 4 little people age 4 and under.  I blog about all things family, faith & fun. Come over & say hi!  I love meeting new friends though my blog & Facebook but I am especially obsessed with Twitter & Instagram
.

I’m here to tell you that dreams change.  Have you had that experience?

For me:

Age 18 – Getting into the college of my choice.

Age 20 – Getting my first “big person” office job.

Age 20 – Moving into my first apartment WITHOUT roommates.

Age 20 – Buying my first nice car…a 1998 Honda Accord LX.

Age 24 – Buying a condo all by myself.  I felt so independent.

Age 24 – Getting my first “important” job…I remember dancing around
my living room jumping up and down after I got off the phone with HR.  The money I was going to make made me almost cry from happiness.

Notice a theme here?

Me.

mE..

ME…

During that time I seemed to run from my faith a bit.  I was more concerned with the world.  With what my friends or co-workers or perfect strangers thought of me than of what my God thought of me.  He would nudge me but I would ignore him.  I was too concerned with what the world’s idea of success was.
Sometimes I cringe at those years. My prayer now is that my story can encourage someone who has been in a similar place or is currently in that place, that they are not alone.

Since that time I’ve met a man of tremendous faith, been “successful”
yet shoved around in the career world, bought our “dream home”, had children and became a SAHM.

My priorities have changed.
My relationship with my husband has improved.
I’ve become a LOT less judgmental . I’ve fallen more in love than ever with my savior.

My bulleted list by age has a different theme now.

Age 25 – Got married.

Age 28 – Bought “dream home”.

Age 29 – Had 1st baby.

Age 30 – Had 2nd & 3rd babies (twins).

Age 30 – Traded in expensive fancy SUV for more economical family
van.

Age 31 – Had 4th baby.

Age 31 – Sold “dream home” to fully embrace the dream we live in.
We are downsizing from all the “stuff” and living more fully than I’d ever imagined.

Time & God changes people.
I am here to tell you dreams change.
The “stuff” of life is not actual “stuff”.  It’s the people and experiences of serving
others in this life; for this life is merely a blip on the radar of
eternity.

FINALLY my focus is where it should be.

She should meet my friend who also has 4 kids 3 and under (boy, twin boys and a girl). I love this post. It’s amazing how we grow and mature and how our priorities and desires change as we do. Thank God for his faithfulness and grace. Thanks for linking up!

The first part of my 20’s sound an awful lot like yours. It wasn’t until I surrendered to God, and left my path up to Him that things changed for the wonderful. That is when my husband-to-be came into the picture and everything changed! Isn’t God wonderful? And isn’t it amazing what He does when we take our focus off of us and put it back on Him? 🙂 Thanks for this lovely post! God Bless!

It truly is wonderful when God shows exactly what He can do when we let Him take over our lives! Thank you for stoppin by! Blessings!

Dreams do change. Thank you for sharing this. I have dreams change due to autism. I have had dreams change because of choices of family and life. There is a time to grieve these changes and then we must start to embrace the change.

That they do. Dreams don’t always stay the same, remember dreams from when you were a little girl? So precious, yet many didn’t come true. We always dream, it’s a matter of waiting on the Lord to see which dreams will come true! 🙂 Blessings!

I loved this post! I am right there with you sister. Seriously, I felt as if I was reading my own story. Embracing this life God has called me to is so much more fulfilling than all that I tried to pursue for me and me alone. So glad that the Lord continues to pursue us even when we don’t do the same. Keep on writing for his glory!

This is a great post. As I get older I am consistently amazed at life. I had certain plans and thoughts of what would make me happy, or how things would work out. Instead things have been much, much harder, and haven’t gone the way I planned at all. But I am happy, happy with my life and where I am at. God writes amazing fairy tales!

Kelly, you are so blessed to have figured this out while your children are young. I have seen families go bankrupt (spiritually and financially) trying to buy all the ‘toys’ they think they and their kids need to be happy. What kids need is a happy family life and loving parents. Bless you for sharing 🙂

It can be so hard to determine what the “right” way to do things is when the world shows us a one thing and our faith shows us many times a polar opposite way. BUT, God is faithful and he nudges us in His direction over and over. He is faithful and never gives up. We just have to be open to seeing His way and when we finally “get it” what FREEDOM it is! Thank you so much for reading Kathleen!

Yes, it is so very true. Much is given up to “give them everything” 🙁 Very sad! Thanks for stoppin by! Blessings! 🙂

Enjoyed your blog. Thanks for being real and sharing from your heart. Yes dreams change and change and change. Now my children are all grown and I have grandchildren (did not think that would ever happen). Dreams are still changing.

Blessings to you and your journey!
