“And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.”
How often have you heard it said, “We all have secrets.”?
I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard it in my life.
I used to agree with the statement, but now I know it is not true.
Let’s take a look at the definition of the word “secret”.
“Removed from sight; private; unknown.”
That is typically the definition and understanding of the word “secret”.
I found another definition though! It surprised me! I was planning to go straight to scripture at this point…..but….
“Known to God only.”
Yup! That’s in Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary!
In God’s Word we find the following….
“O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.”
If we would truly take to heart AND KNOW that every thought and every word spoken “to ourselves” were not “secrets”, known to us alone; how different our thoughts and thus our actions would be!
Our thoughts are not our own alone.
God knows them all, and knows all that we do.
Secrets are not ours alone; God is in on them too! <– Share Me
One day they will be brought out into the open! It may not happen today or on in earth in this life, but one day all “secrets” will be revealed.
May we all be challenged to change our thoughts and actions, knowing nothing in our lives is a “secret”.
