Why I Stay Busy w/ Wisdom Wednesday Link Up

It took my mom and little brother’s conversation to answer the question “Why does Misty stay busy?”

In the past I used to keep track of everything I got done each day, by posting it on Facebook. I didn’t intend to upset, hurt or to brag. It was how I was able to “see” what all accomplished each day. The reason I needed this….because I never feel like I get enough done. Comments from family and friends ranged from, “Wow”, β€œI’m tired just reading this” to “Stop bragging already”. I no longer post these statuses due to the last comment mentioned.

It was during this time period that my little brother asked my mom, “How does Misty get all that stuff done?” My mom’s response….”She stays busy to keep from dwelling on the loneliness and the difficulties in her life. She pushes it away by staying busy.”

I had never thought about “why I stay busy”. It was just the way I did things.

After my mom shared this conversation with me, I tried to slow down, have more “me/down time”. It didn’t work well, the loneliness and realization of my marriage/parenting difficulties were staring me in the face at every “quiet” moment.

Now, I am still busy, very busy as many say, but for me it is the only way I know how to balance my life.

Β Β Staying busy keeps me from dwelling on the negative.<— Share Me

I am learning when I need down time, to get some minor things done, to read a book, to have coffee with a friend, to have a day off from school, etc.

Someday my children and their activities will be gone, my life pace will slow down. It is those days I am afraid of ~ down time will be on my hands and many difficulties will likely still be in my life. I have no idea how I will busy myself in this time. God does though, and for now I’m learning to trust this to Him. I can’t do anything about it now anyways.

This post falls in line with my previous “being real” posts. I hope you know now, if not before that my life is nowhere near perfect.

I’m just a Princess trying to become the woman I can for my King!

Yes, I find myself reading, reviewing, and writing when I feel stressed. But I find it necessary to remind myself that I should learn to step out and face things, learn to be more available for my family even when life is tough. As was said above, it is a balancing act.

And don’t worry about not being busy enough later; learn to rejoice now.

Yes, reading and writing is a stress reliever! It’s weird how that is, but it is! Thank you for the advice πŸ™‚ I greatly appreciate it! Blessings!

What a beautiful post. Come to think of it…I think the reasons your mom gave for you staying busy are the same reasons that I stay busy. When I am busy, my heart soars above rather than becoming consumed with some of the unavoidable circumstances in my life. I find joy as I keep busy. Not having too much time on my hands is the best medicine for depression. It drives it away!!

Thanks for linking up over at WholeHearted Home this past week. Hope to see you again this week.

Misty, this post really touched me because we are so much the same. I love and have to remember your statement, “I’m just a Princess trying to become the woman I can for my King!”!

When my kids were little and I was overwhelmed as a Mom I felt the same way, and had the same fears. But now that they are all grown and gone I find that God gives me a new busyness….and it is wonderful. He has filled the places that need to be filled and given me years of experience and wisdom to know what “too busy” looks like. You will have that too……and hopefully you will find freedom in it.
Thanks for you honest post. Glad I stopped by.

That is what I have been told. The fear of the unknown tends to sweep up on me, that is when I must choose to trust Him and know He will have something for me at that time in my life! Thanks for stoppin by and sharing! Blessings!

i know what it feels like to feel like you don’t get anything done!
that’s kinda why i started my blog, so i can actually start recording what i’ve been doing at this time of life.
and honestly, i feel like my life is already crazy busy. i can’t imagine being a mom. i salute you all. seriously.
(i came to your blog today via follow me wednesday! happy wednesday!)

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Yes, it’s a constant state of “what did I really do today?” It’s crazy once you sit down and keep track of it all! Thanks for stoppin by! Blessings!

Wow – that last comment you receive was MEAN! β€œStop bragging already” Just ignore it. If it helps you to list what you’ve done, go for it! My Mom is always super busy and she is also lonely. I wish she’d meet a nice man to date.

I also wondered what the heck I would do when my kids left home… God will take care of you and you will find wonderful things to do and explore. You have such a kind heart. I can see you helping others with your compassion. Just keep your eyes focused on your Savior and you will be fine. Bless you girl!

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Yes, ignoring comments like that is best. I learned throughout the time that I was listing things that I really do get a lot done, so I just keep going with it. Plus not posting what I’m doing gives me more time, to like….Blog!

Thank you for your kind words dear sister! Blessings!

A good reminder that we are all wired differently! I am the opposite…staying busy keeps me from dwelling on the positive! It is all about knowing ourselves well enough to make good decisions about how we spend our time isn’t it? πŸ™‚

    1. simplyhelpinghim

Yes, we all are different πŸ˜‰ The juggling act isn’t for everyone πŸ˜‰ Blessings!

Oh, the busyness! Yes, I used to do this as well. Especially when I was single. Now that I’m a mom, I treasure my quiet moments. But I do have to guard against filling them up with other types of busyness. Thanks for the reminder!

    1. simplyhelpinghim

I love to have a few quiet moments to myself to read! That’s about the extent of it! LOL! Thanks for stoppin by! πŸ™‚
