Availability vs. Self-Centeredness

Availability

Definition: Making my own schedule and priorities secondary to the wishes of those I serve.

I Will…..

* Put others ahead of myself

*Find a way to help, not a way to hide

* Be ready when I’m called

* Be glad for the chance to serve

* Check with the right person before I make commitments

Week One Activities

(Working on ~ * Putting others ahead of myself)

* Have children allow their siblings go first during game time

* Put kiddos and family time above your own quiet time

Week Two Activities

(Working on ~ *Finding a way to help, not a way to hide)

* Be on the look out (as a family) to reach out and help someone this week

* Help your kiddos with a project instead of hiding behind “work”

Week Three Activities

(Working on ~ * Be ready when I’m called)

* Work on listening when you are called ~ the first time!

* Show your kids they matter by listening to them the first time as well!

Week Four Activities

(Working on ~ * Being glad for the chance to serve)

* Be cheerful when helping!

* A smile while helping/working lightens the heart!

Week Five Activities

(Working on ~ * Check with the right person before I make commitments)

* Teach kiddos to always be helpful, but to check with you before committing to anything

* Spouses be courteous and check with each other before making commitments as well

Reminders

* Being available can be done each and every day ~ at home, at school, at church, wherever you are!

*Remind everyone that a smile lightens your mood and will make being available easier!

* Jesus was always available. He is our greatest example. He never turned anyone away.

  1. This is such a great list to help with practical intentionality! I love that you didn’t try to implement everything at one time, but took a weekly approach… very helpful!

  2. We are really working on week 5 in our house. It may seem strange, but the Hubs and I will text each other while we are both home just to make sure our calendars are in sync. Now to keep it up as our children grow and have busier schedules! Thank you for linking up with Thrive @ Home!
